Review: Can The 2018 Nissan Maxima Platinum Be a Luxury Sports Sedan?

May 27, 2020

The Nissan Maxima can potentially play the role of luxury car, sports car, family sedan, or all three….depending on what you like. This particular 2018 Nissan Maxima Platinum Edition comes fully loaded and has a 300 HP engine with good driving dynamics. My least favorite thing was the CVT because it takes away some fun from the car but the “sport” button helped by enhancing the engine note and making it more responsive. Overall, this 2018 Maxima was very comfortable, quiet, aggressive looking, and pretty much exactly what most sedan buyers would want. It’s so close in size to the Altima which makes it unique and much smaller than competitors like the Chevy Impala, Toyota Avalon, and more. If ou really want something sport, go with the Maxima SR Midnight model because it’s got a sportier suspension and looks great. Stick around till the end to watch the Maxima test drive and let me know what you think!

  • Thanks for watching! The Maxima offers a lot in terms of features, power, and comfort. It could fit the needs of a lot of sedan shoppers. I’d like to see a heads up display and traditional transmission but can’t complain much! Let me know what you think!

  • I just picked one up. Traded in a 2015 Altima 3.5 SL….I'm in love with it. Most comfortable Nissan I've owned. Been driving Nissan for over 30 yrs.

  • hint, wait till there is only one Maxima left on the lot, May to July of the next year is best, you get the best deal on the last ones. 2018 SV was $28,990 and it was on the lot for 11 months one week. Normal prices about $5K higher than that. I had two dealerships say "can't touch that price"

  • This is a great review. Excellent job and descriptions during the road test. Many YouTube clones don't even bother with the road test.

  • This car has some of the worst visibility I have experienced. You feel like your dropping into a thin aerodynamic sports car yet the moment you want to feel safe driving like one it falls short. The sense of claustrophobia far outweighs the looks of this car. Nissan is yet another car manufacturer pushing the edges of modern styling without considering its driving experience each step of the way. Typical, style over function reeks in the middle to low tear car sector these days. Only Subaru has remained true to there pedigree of excellent driving experience along with a more classic approach to style despite all the trendy bodywork and LEDs seeping in. Mind you I’m referencing the middle to low priced segment.

  • New subscriber here! Awesome review! Very detailed and informative, even though you kinda shaded the Honda Accord which is one of my fave cars too, but it's cool lol. Almost caught a glimpse of your crotch there when demonstrating the thigh support in which I would've so been here for LMAO! Jk!😂😂😂 I look forward to more reviews!
