Honda CB 500 X – 2018 – Is it good for travelling?

My lightweight motorcycle series continue with Honda CB 500 X. It is not exactly for this category, but actually in this niche 250-300cc there are not so many bikes to test. I will add some models up to 500cc and later in the year I might start a new series ” Middle weigh touring motorcycles”
My first impressions from the bike are very good. Yes, I will agree that it is not a motorcycle to go off road, but it has very good and economical engine, nice style, cheap price and it could be easily be converted to around the world motorcycle.

I think that it will be perfect bike for short riders, because of it’s seat high, only 81sm. It is also very good entry level for many new riders. I personally would like to have this engine to a CRF 250 Rally frame, but…

  • These bikes here in the US can be had for $3500 in excellent condition if it's a few years old. Would make a nice first bike, then when off road calls, it should handle the "easy" stuff. Then as the rider gets better, Rally Raid to the rescue. Not talking from experience, but after some research I think that's what I'd like to do.

  • Thanks for all the great videos. I am currently trying to decide between cb500x (which would get the rally raid upgrade) and 2017 africa twin. You had nothing but good things to say about both bikes in your reviews. Which would you pick if you had to. My use case is solo touring, 70/30 in terms of on-road/ off-road. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

  • Hi Pavlin Thanks for all reviews! Which bikes (preferably light adventure bikes) would you recommend for the 1,9m 95kg guy with little biking experience? I like the new Kawasaki Versys 300X, KLR 650 or Honda NX750X with DCT transmissions, but Im flexible as long is a Japanese bike..

  • Great review. I was all set to buy a cruiser, but this is also very tempting. What to do?

  • Would love to see you review the CB500X with the Rally Raid Stage 3 mods and how you would modify this bike to make it a good light weight Adventure Bike.

  • Honda is not a good company to deal with in CANADA I wanted a CB500X 2019 they told me could get one in May, the first of May I went in and they told me May 15, on May 15, I went in and the said June 6, on June 7 I was told they could not get me one. So then I seen that they were having a good sail on the 2018 CB 500 X went in to day and the dealer called Honda and they said they did not have any. I called Honda many times and emailed them but not results. Why are the advertising bikes in Canada that you can not get and when you call Honda they say you can then say maybe then say see your dealer who I have seen many times, and when he calls Honda he gets the same answers I do and said it is a way to get people in to the dealer ships. Is this not false advertising, which is Against The Law in Canada.

  • I had a CB50f in 1972 when I got out of the service. I think it was the most beautiful motorcycle ever made. I rode it all the time(I didnt have a car), monthly the 240 miles to Houston from Shreveport. What a heart! This bike was so reliable. If they make another four cylinder that looks this good, I’ll buy it. It’s about the minim. Would consider for a street bike

  • nice review, however bike has adjustable rear shock, and you can raise up the wind screen to control the buffeting…it does do the highways quite well and very stable at 75 mph here in Upstate Ny. will get to 100 mph pretty darn quick too. It will do plenty of dirt roads riddled with ruts with the amount of suspension. It can almost go anywhere there is some type of road or path with ease!

  • Appreciate your reviews. I have ridden hi way speeds (70-80 mph) on mine for hours on end. Bike will do it but, fuel economy suffers markedly. It will cruise 65mph all day with better fuel economy. I like it….I like it a lot.
